Lagori (Seven Stones)

1. Introduction

The Modern Pythian Games proudly introduces Lagori, also known internationally by various names, as a competitive cultural sport to be played in both online and offline modes. This event will feature Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals for general as well as disabled (divyangjan and para-athlete) participants in an inclusive format.

2. Game Description

Lagori is a traditional team sport where players aim to knock down a tower of flat stones with a ball and then attempt to restore it while the opposing team tries to tag them with the ball. It promotes agility, teamwork, speed, and traditional fun. It will be adapted for both general and disabled participants in age-appropriate and skill-based categories.

3. Categories of Competition

By Age Group (for both General and Disabled participants):

• Under 12 years
• 13 to 17 years
• 18 to 35 years
• 36 years and above

By Mode:

• Offline (On-ground format)
• Online (Recorded or live performance submission)

By Gender:

• Male
• Female
• Mixed Teams (optional category)

By Ability:

• General (Able-bodied)
• Disabled / Para-athlete Participants

4. Registration Process

• Participants must register through the official Modern Pythian Games portal.
• Each team must consist of 6–8 members.
• For online competitions, teams must upload a video of their game according to the official guidelines.
• A unique registration ID and participation certificate will be issued to each participant.
• Registration is open internationally and free or subsidized for para-participants.

5. Eligibility Criteria

• Participants must provide valid age proof and identity.
• Teams must consist of members from the same age category.
• Disabled participants must provide a government-certified disability card or letter from a recognized medical authority.
• All online participants must agree to the declaration of originality and fair play.

6. Dress Code

• Uniform T-shirts or jerseys (same color) for all team members.
• Track pants or sports shorts.
• Non-marking sports shoes or barefoot as per cultural preference.
• Disabled participants may wear suitable adaptive gear as per their needs.
• Jerseys must display team name and registration number.

7. Game Format and How It Is Played

Offline Format

• A pile of 7 flat stones is placed at the center of the playing area.
• One team is the attacking team, and the other is the defending team.
• The attacking team gets 3 attempts to knock down the stone pile using a soft rubber ball.
• Once the pile is knocked, the attacking team must try to rebuild the stone pile while avoiding being hit by the defenders.
• If the pile is rebuilt before all attacking players are hit, they win the round.
• After a fixed number of rounds (e.g., 3 per team), the team with the most successful rebuilds wins.

Online Format

• Teams must record their performance from a fixed camera angle, following the prescribed layout and rules.
• Time duration for online games is limited to 5–7 minutes per team.
• The jury panel will evaluate based on performance, coordination, time taken, and accuracy.
• Fair play, video clarity, and no cuts or edits are essential.

8. Jury Panel and Jury Qualification

• The jury will consist of 3 to 5 members including:
  • Certified physical education instructors
  • Traditional games experts
  • International cultural referees
• For para and disabled categories, at least one member should have experience in para-sports adjudication.
• Jury decisions will be final and based on transparent criteria.

9. Scoring Criteria

Offline:

• Knockdown success: 5 points
• Successful pile rebuild: 10 points
• Players hit by the ball: -2 points each
• Time bonus for fast rebuild: +3 points

Online:

• Execution of knockdown and rebuild: 10 points
• Coordination and team strategy: 5 points
• Time efficiency: 5 points
• Video clarity and compliance: 5 points
• Penalties for violation or edits: -5 points

10. Winning Criteria

• Highest total score after all rounds wins.
• In case of a tie, the team with the fastest rebuild time wins.
• Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to the top 3 teams in each category.

11. Other Rules and Regulations

• The ball must be soft and not injure players (approved by organizers).
• Stones must be flat and of similar size (provided by organizers for fairness).
• In online events, any sign of editing or manipulation leads to disqualification.
• Teams must exhibit sportsmanship, and any abusive or harmful behavior will lead to disqualification.
• For para-athletes, the field can be adapted for wheelchair or assisted mobility use.
• Referees may stop the match if any injury occurs or unfair advantage is suspected.

12. Code of Conduct and Fair Play

• All players must sign a declaration of integrity and non-violence.
• Use of unfair means or unsportsmanlike behavior can result in immediate expulsion.
• For disabled participants, organizers must ensure accessible venues and inclusive protocols.

13. Medal Distribution and Recognition

• Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded in each category.
• All finalists will receive certificates and digital badges.
• Online winners will be recognized on the official website and social media platforms.
• Para participants will receive additional “Inclusive Champion” recognitions.
